lyrics
A knife cut down
And took the life of Kenneth Bigley
His message was broadcast on the TV
He was kidnapped on the 16th of September
Along with more innocents to remember
The brutal captors laid forth their harsh demand
To the attention of the British command
The world watched stunned, they rallied for his case
The world looked upon the hostage’s face
The news spread truth though there’s bound to be rumors
There’s different stories concerning all of the prisoners
Kenneth Bigley, it is told was a civil engineer
Rebuilding a country torn by hate and fear
The world heard his plea for them to listen
For all the women to be freed from the prison
His image was captured on a videotape
It was reported that he came close to escape
He calmly said: “I am just a simple man
Who wants a simple life, I beg you…” Understand…
While the bombs dropped, while the guns crawled on their hunts
“I’m not afraid,” he said, “You only die once.”
The missiles shrieked too loud to be heard through a war
Like John the Baptist he was beheaded over what he stood for
Whoever’s right, whoever may be wrong
Will do what you will, will say your belief
No matter still, however you may see it
How you look at it, whoever’s side you’re on
You can be certain, yes, you surely can agree
There was a hero once named Kenneth Bigley
